The organizing committee offers a one-day tour, which is slated for June 29, 2024, Saturday. It is an optional program separate from the seminar and is for interested participants only. The tour is organized by a tour agency based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, not by the organizing committee. To be able to join the tour, interested participants will have to pay for it. Payment is made by bank transfer. The price of the tour is not included in the USD450 seminar fee and the tour will run only if there are a minimum of 10 participants.
Three tour options are offered and interested participants can only elect one.
The tour participants will visit some villages near the Borobudur Temple compound using their choice of transportation: bikes or classic 70s Volkswagen 181. They will also observe how the local people traditionally produce rice crackers, cultivate mushrooms, and make batik (an Indonesian traditional textile art form).
The price of the tour ranges from Rp 2,200,000 to Rp 2,500,000 (equivalent to USD145 – USD165), depending on the number of participants and the mode of transportation you choose to explore the villages. The more participants join the tour, the lower the price is. The price includes lunch, transport from Yogyakarta to Borobudur and back, travel insurance (personal accident), tour guide services (English and Spanish), and transportation modes for the tour. The price also includes VIP entrance tickets to Borobudur, which allows the participants to climb up to the ninth level of the temple.
The tour participants will visit some villages near the Prambanan Temple compound on bikes and make a stop at the Plaosan Temple (a Buddhist temple 6 minutes away from the Prambanan Temple compound), observe how the local people traditionally produce herbal drinks, tofu, and melinjo (Gnetum gnemon nuts) crackers, have lunch by the Opak River, and watch the shadow puppet play and gamelan performances.
The price of the tour ranges from Rp 1,235,000 to Rp 1,475,000 (equivalent to USD82 – USD97), depending on the number of participants. The more participants join the tour, the lower the price is. The price includes lunch, transport, travel insurance (personal accident), and tour guide services (English and Spanish).
The participants will visit the Sultan’s palace, observe the traditional batik home industry around the palace, and practice making Batik. They will also visit the silver craft area in Kotagede, about 6.1 km (3.7 miles) away from the palace, and observe the traditional pottery making in Kasongan, Bantul, approximately 12 km (7.4 miles) away from Kotagede.
The price of the tour ranges from Rp 1,305,000 to Rp 1,500,000 (USD86 – USD99), depending on the number of participants. The more participants join the tour, the lower the price is. The price includes lunch, transport, travel insurance (personal accident), and tour guide services (English and Spanish).
